Edwin Hawkins, Tramaine Hawkins & Kurt Carr honored at BMI luncheon

Gospel music leaders Edwin Hawkins, Tramaine Hawkins, and Kurt Carr were honored at BMI's 14th annual Trailblazers of Gospel Music Awards Luncheon January 18 in Nashville.

The luncheon was hosted by fellow gospel superstars CeCe Winans and Donnie McClurkin. The event featured musical tributes of the honored artists' songs by other well-known gospel music artists.

Kirk Franklin’s “I Smile,” BMI’s Most-Performed Gospel Song of the Year, was also recognized at the luncheon, which was held at Rocketown. "I Smile” topped gospel charts and achieved historic crossover success, garnering more than 500,000 performances.

BMI’s gospel songwriters include Kirk Franklin, Fred Hammond, Donnie McClurkin, Yolanda Adams, Jessica Reedy, Marvin Sapp, Twinkie Clark, BeBe Winans, Wess Morgan, Kim Burrell and many more.
