Luxury Maison Montblanc celebrated 90 years of the Meisterstück on the evening of April 3 at Gustavino's. A fashionable crowd flew in from all the corners of the world to celebrate the iconic timeless fountain pen’s big anniversary. The sophisticated and intimate dinner seated nearly 150 guests who enjoyed Maine Lobster Salad, Ocean Fresh Chilean Sea Bass with celery puree and crème cake with fresh berries flavored with Tahitian Vanilla. The stunning evening hosted by Jérôme Lambert, CEO Montblanc International, was a perfect tribute to an instrument that has been an important part of history’s written words for nearly a century.
Guests including Edward Norton, Rosario Dawson, Penn Badgely, Olivia Palermo, Johannes Huebl, Chanel Iman, Sebastian Stan, Anthony Mackie, Alex Wek, Madalina Ghenea and Stephen Baldwin joined Jérôme Lambert, Chief Executive Officer of Montblanc International to discover Montblanc's 90th Anniversary Collection, featuring four new writing instruments, as well as an exhibition featuring a retrospective of writing instruments from the past nine decades. The exhibition also paid tribute to prominent international leaders, distinguished authors and celebrities, such as President John F. Kennedy with former German Chancellor Konrad Adenauer, Prince Charles and Princess Diana, who all marked a precious moment in their lives with their very own Meisterstück writing instrument.
Alek Wek said on the red carpet, "Words are a part of life. Pens are wonderful and I love writing. It is not like an email. Writing with a pen signifies a special moment in time that is captured on paper forever." Dawson added, "I love pens. This is such a wonderful night."
Jens Henning Koch, Executive Vice President of Marketing for Montblanc International said, "When you have an icon and you are paying homage to it you have to really think about the best way to celebrate it. Whenever we do something new we have to ask ourselves if this is true to our DNA. You have to find a way to redesign it and honor it at the same time," in statement in regards to the special limited edition 90th Anniversary design with rose gold.
To further showcase their commitment to the culture of writing, Montblanc announced their plans for their future - a partnership with the Tribeca Film Institute and Nelson Mendela Foundation. Montblanc shares Nelson Mandela’s lifelong commitment to writing and the power of words. Last year, Montblanc fueled “Midnight Moments: A Digital Gallery” - synchronized creative content videos, which were broadcasted in Times Square. At the 90th anniversary celebration, Montblanc announced that they would continue to support the Power of Words project and debuted a sneak peak of the 2014 short film project.
While styles come and go, fashions evolve, and a culture of smart technology permeates society, the Meisterstück remains almost unchanged and firmly hold onto its iconic status achieved soon after it first appeared in 1924 in Hamburg, Germany. With its instantly recognizable refined aesthetics, it is a statement of style and a symbol of timeless elegance. Building on this heritage, not only does the Meisterstück rank among the world’s most famous luxury icons, today it continues to assert Montblanc’s savoir-faire and vision for the future of luxury writing instruments. The Montblanc Meisterstück Collection will be available from April 2014 in Montblanc boutiques worldwide.
