Omaha's Henry Doorly Zoo is one of the worlds largest zoos. It is home to over 950 different species. It has the world's largest indoor desert, world's largest indoor swamp, the Lied Jungle indoor rainforest, the world's largest cat complex, and many more exhibits. In addition to everything already available for visitors to see there are several exhibits in the works for people to enjoy in the future.
It is a great place to take the family for a leisurely day out in the sun, or when the weather isn't cooperating, there is also plenty to see in the many indoor exhibits. For those of you who are local, it's a great place to get an annual membership and stop in for an hour or so here or there to pick and choose exhibits. This is perfect for homeschooling families who are learning about animals. Once you finish learning about an animal or zoological concept, take a field trip to the zoo to get some first hand observations of your species of choice.
Educational opportunities are not limited to strolling through the Henry Doorly Zoo. Often you can find informational carts, or zoo staff hanging around exhibits providing extra information about the animal. The zoo also provides a variety of classes, including some focused on homeschooling education. No matter what you're educational goal is, if it's dealing with animals the zoo always has knowledgeable staff ready to help.
