Education & The Workforce Committee hearing on school safety

Feb. 26, 2013 - Washington DC - In the wake of last year's Sandy Hook shooting and in memory of the lives lost, the United States House of Representatives, Education & The Workforce Committee, will hold a hearing to discuss school safety. This will be streamed live on February 27th, 2013.

Chairman Kline will convene a full committee hearing, entitled “Protecting Students and Teachers: A Discussion on School Safety,” Chairman Kline states,

“The events that took place two months ago in Newtown shocked the nation, and we continue to grieve for the innocent lives lost on that horrible day, We have a responsibility to examine what is and is not working when it comes to school safety. The upcoming hearing will provide an opportunity to discuss ways states and school districts are working to prevent violence in our classrooms. I look forward to a robust conversation with my colleagues on these important matters.”

A central focus of the hearing is expected to be:

  • how schools prepare from threats of violence,
  • faculty and student training practices,
  • local school security needs,
  • crisis reaction protocol, and
  • effective post-incident recovery services.
