Eidos-Montreal is looking to take the Deus Ex title to the next level with an ambitious new project dubbed Deus Ex: Universe. With more that 2.5 million copies sold worldwide, Deus Ex: Human Revolution far exceeded that expectations of Edios-M. The success of the games even spawned the production of a movie based on the game.
The Deus Ex: Universe project will include new next-gen console and PC games, but Eidos' goal is grander than that. Writing on the company's community site, Eidos Montreal head David Anfossi says, "The concept behind Deus Ex: Universe is to create an ongoing, expanding and connected game world built across a generation of core games." According to Anfossi, it is Edios-M’s intention to “…deliver a deep conspiracy that will span several connected Deus Ex games, creating a more immersive and richer experience than ever before.” This should be exciting news for the two million plus fans that enjoyed the futuristic world of Deus Ex: Human Revolution, where human augmentation and political power struggles over its morality drive a story laden with conspiracy.
The plan is to add to the Deus Ex franchise on a regular basis that will stretch across multiple games and to expand the Deus Ex experience to other media including smartphones, tablets, graphic novels, etc. He adds that Eidos Montreal is "already into production of the starting point for Deus Ex: Universe with a new game for PC and next-generation consoles," and with most of the original Deus Ex team on board, the next Deus Ex game should be the fantastic next level that fans didn’t see coming. David Anfossi has already released some details on the next game, stating that “trans-humanism segregation” will serve as the backdrop to the vision for the next Deus Ex.
Craving more Deus Ex: Human Revolution? On October 22, Edios-M is set to release DXHR: Directors Cut. When the game launches, players will have the opportunity to experience Human Revolution in a new and unique way through SmartGlass, the PSVita and the Wii U Gamepad.
