Edina Hornets win Section 2AA championship

There will be a lot of green, gold and white headed for St. Paul next week as Bo Brauer scored a goal and an assist to lead the Edina Hornets to a 3-2 win over the Burnsville Blaze in the Section 2AA championship game Wednesday night at Mariucci Arena in Minneapolis.

The Blaze got the early lead as Brock Boeser centered the puck to Tyler Sheehy and he put it past Hornet goalie Willie Benjamin. Edina evened the score when Dylan Malmquist, on the right side of the net, centered to Andy Jordahl and he scored. Burnsville goalie Chris Mallon was playing too far out on the right side of the net and it cost him. Dan Hinueber found the open spot near the crease and he put Edina in front.

Both teams added a goal in the second period. The Hornets struck first as Brauer's centering pass to Cullen between the two faceoff circles enabled him to increase the lead to two. The Blaze took advantage of a turnover when Sheehy intercepted a pass from Tyler Nanne in the center slot and he scored his second goal. It was all the scoring for both teams as they played solid defense, including a save by Mallon :29 into the period where he went on his back to cover the puck.

Burnsville and Edina had 26 shots apiece.

Nanne is the grandson of former North Star and long-time state boys hockey tournament TV analyst Lou Nanne. He also wears the same number his grandfather wore, 23.
