Everybody LOVES money! Who wouldn't love to see it all over their cake? Well you can make Edible Money and use it as part of the decorations on your cake. A perfect compliment to your Diva's cake or to compliment purse or wallet cakes. It's perfect for any cake!
Edible money is very easy to make, as well. All you need is rolled fondant, an edible image machine, and a fabulous idea for a cake! Make sure you have a lot of space and you should be set!
First, you'll need to make copies of the money you want to make. A basic Google search for the bills is the quickest way. You can find just about every bill, front and back. You'll want to make a variety of bills, both front and back, just to make it look more realistic.
Once you find your bills, you can print them off and get them ready to scan in your edible image machine. If you don't have your own machine, you can take them to a local bakery that has a machine or send them to an online service. Once you print them off, it's easier to cut them out and then scan them on the edible image machine. This is because you don't want to waste space on the edible sheets by printing off a bunch of useless space between your bills. Try to save space on the edible sheet by scanning and printing as many bills together at one time as possible. Once you have printed out your bills on the edible sheets, carefully cut them out with an exacto knife or other very sharp knife. Set them aside in a ziplock bag so they do not dry out.
Next you will roll out your fondant. Prepare a large enough area on your counter for enough fondant sufficient for the amount of bills you are making. This just saves on time not having to roll out fondant again and again. Once your fondant is rolled out to about the width of a penny, you will smear enough water all over the surface of the fondant to make it sticky. You don't want it too wet, just sticky, almost like glue.
With clean, dry hands, begin placing very carefully your edible money images onto the gluey fondant. Be careful not to touch the top of the money with your wet or gluey fingers as this will smear the coloring. Also, once the image is down onto the fondant, it cannot be removed! So make sure it goes on right the first time! Once all the bills are on, dry your hands and gently smooth the bills with your fingers to make sure they are evenly laying down on the fondant.
Now it's time to cut your bills out. Use an exacto knife or other sharp knife. After all your bills are cut out, you can start arranging them on your cake or slightly fold them to stick down in a purse or wallet cake. Just be creative! Have fun and be ready to wow your guests!
