Edgar Hansen star of the Discovery Channel “Deadliest Catch” is branching out into other areas. Yes, he still loves to fish for crabs in the Bering Sea, but he also likes to build. If you remember, he took off a season to work on some building projects. Four years ago, Edgar started his own company of remodeling kitchens, bathrooms or whatever room needs redoing.
In May, Edgar and Sid Hansen were in New Bedford, Mass giving a talk. Of course, they talked about fishing on the FV/Northwestern, but Edgar talked about another hobby that he loved doing. Little did he know that Deborah Hood, producer of PBS “This Old House” was in the audience. Afterwards, Deborah met up with the brothers.
As it turns out, Edgar is a huge fan of “This Old House” with cast members Tom Silva, Norm Abram and Roger Cook. Tom is the lead contractor on the series while Norm is the master carpenter. Edgar said that his real passion is putting in tile and doing the finish-trim work, but he didn't get to show off his expertise in that area.
Edgar told Zap2it, "The theory is I'm going to be their greenhorn for a day. They're going to get me in there and run me through the paces. I'll do whatever they want me to do."
So, what did Edgar get to do on their show? He used the jackhammer and helped Roger Cook who is the landscaper on the show. Edgar did so well on the show that they have a place for him if he ever wants to leave crab fishing.
The show, "This Old House" with Edgar Hansen will air on February 27, 2014 on PBS.
