Eden Riegel returns to “All My Children” as Bianca Montgomery, daughter of Erica Kane and the late Travis Montgomery, Soap Opera Network reported on Feb. 23. Riegel was last seen as Heather Stevens on the CBS soap opera “The Young and the Restless.”
Bianca Montgomery, born on Feb. 8, 2088, but later that date was revised to Feb. 9, 1984. Among the actresses who portrayed Bianca Montgomery as a child are Lacey Chabert, Nathalie Paulding, Gina Gallagher and Caroline Wilde. Jessica Leigh Falborn portrayed an infant Bianca.
Bianca Montgomery has suffered from Reye’s syndrome when an infant, and anorexia nervosa as a teenager. As an adult Bianca revealed to her family and friends that she was a lesbian and the character became an icon in LGBT community. Montgomery was the first lesbian lead character on a major daytime drama.
Eden Riegel’s portrayal of Bianca Montgomery from 2000 until 2010 has been called “groundbreaking,” and The Advocate called the character “the most famous gay role of all time.”
As Bianca Montgomery, Riegel had a transgender romance with rock star Zarf/Zoe, but the storyline was met with criticism from the LGBT community and “All My Children” fans in general.
Bianca Montgomery has two daughters, Miranda Montgomery, who was the result of Michael Cambias raping Bianca. Montgomery’s second daughter, Gabrielle, was fathered by her sperm donating brother-in-law, Zach Slater. The choice of Zach as the father made Miranda and Gabrielle not only half-siblings, but cousins. Many “AMC” fans found the storyline and relationship “icky.”
