Last night at the Triple Door in Seattle, Mike Watt was joined onstage by three friends for an impromptu, unrehearsed performance of the song Big Train. The legendary bassist and member of the Minutemen was in town for a solo gig, but fans who stuck around until the very end of his set were treated to quite a moment.
The friends that joined Watt onstage were none other than Dave Grohl of the Foo Fighters and Nirvana, Eddie Vedder of Pearl Jam, and guitarist Pat Smear of the Germs, Foo Fighters, and other projects.
According to Consequence of Sound, this unexpected grunge collaboration happened because the Foos were nearby playing a garage show and Pearl Jam was in town recording, which is news in itself.
Of course, the Foo Fighters are based in Los Angeles, and specifically the San Fernando Valley, having premiered their music video for Rope in Northridge a few months ago and shooting a video for the song White Limo in an around the SFV area.
Any grunge fans who went to the Mike Watt show and left before it was completely finished are probably kicking themselves this morning, having missed out on quite the special moment.
