Those of you who care about the heavyweight division (are you still out there?) should be sure to watch the heavyweight title fight this Saturday between top heavyweight Wladmir Klitschko and #3 heavyweight Eddie Chambers. The fight is not available on TV, which is an outrage. Sure, the heavyweight division is not very popular anymore since the Klitschko brothers dominate everyone, however Chambers is a worthy opponent. Much more worthy than some of the other Klitschko opponents who were fortunate enough to fight in front of a TV audience. The fight is only available on-line for $15.
Chambers (35-1, 18 KO's) is only 27, and has a wealth of fighting experience. Early on in his career as a heavyweight Chambers had some issues staying in shape, which prevented him from becoming an elite contender. However, now the fighter from Philadelphia is in the best shape of his career weighing in at around 210 pounds.
Chambers is a smart and quick fighter. He has tremendous footwork for a heavyweight and was extremely impressive in his last fight against the 6 foot 7 inch monster Alexander Dimitrenko. The fight showed Chambers' ability to break down a much taller and stronger fighter with his foot and hand speed. However, will Chambers be able to do the same thing to Wladmir?
Unfortunately, I do not see it happening. As much as I like Eddie Chambers as a fighter, Wladmir Klitschko is just too tall and skilled for anyone in the heavyweight division to defeat. Chambers is a very busy fighter though, which should make for some close rounds. I think Chambers is the best opponent Wladmir has faced since the 2005 version of Samuel Peter and I expect this fight to be as close as that. I can easily see Chambers winning four, maybe even five, rounds. For the sake of American fight fans though, I really hope Chambers wins. Personally, after this fight I would love to see Chambers take on fighters like David Haye, Tomasz Adamek and Chris Arreola.
Prediction:
Wladmir Klitschko by UD; 116-112
