Eddie Aikau 2009 competition videos show spectacular waves (see Eddie Aikau 2009 videos). The crowds gathered at Waimea Bay Monday for opening day at the Quicksilver in Memory of Eddie Aikau competition, for surfing’s most prestigious event. ‘The Eddie’ has a 25 year history, but has only been held seven times (the last time in 2004), and is named after the famous Hawaiian surfer and lifeguard, Eddie Aikau.
Incredible waves on Oahu’s North Shore bring people from around the globe for this event, and the waves are nothing short of spectacular. Hotels in the area are sold out, the surf shops are packed, and people sit back on the beach, relax and enjoy the show.
The event started Monday, and people from around the world want to see some video of the event, and they have created an internet buzz. Three videos are included from yesterday’s footage.
The first video below is the Heat 8 highlights video (the latest one available).
The second video is the Best Waves and Wipeouts from opening day.
The third video below is the 2009-2010 Eddie promo video.
