Ed Sheeran gets a very Spock surprise

Ed Sheeran still gets starstruck. The NY Daily News reported on Monday, April 14, that the singer/songwriter was in awe when actor Leonard Nimoy, who played Mr. Spock in the "Star Wars" franchise, suddenly walked in during a recording session that he was doing with Pharrell Williams in Los Angeles.

Sheeran and Williams were doing work for Ed's new album, X, when in walked Nimoy. This delighted Sheeran, who is a big movie buff and has presumably seen all the sci-fi films. Sheeran was already "really blown away" to be working with Williams, but the addition of Nimoy, who sat in while the duo wrote the album's first single "Sing," left him "stunned."

Unfortunately for fans of Nimoy, they won't hear him on the track. Despite Williams' insistence, the actor refused to lend his voice for the song. It seems that being a musical star isn't something that the actor was interested in.

"Sing" was penned in just two hours in the Los Angeles studio. Sheeran performed the song, along with "Don't," for the first time on "Saturday Night Live" on Saturday, April 12. The new single is about finding love while secretly drinking at a music industry event. "Don't" is about a breakup with another singer that happens after she sleeps with his close friend.

Sheeran has said that "Don't" isn't about Taylor Swift. In its article, the NY Daily News wrote that the song is reportedly about his relationship with fellow British entertainer Ellie Goulding and her subsequent relationship with One Direction heartthrob, Niall Horan. The new album is set to be released at the end of June.

Sheeran is counting on his fans to push airplay and sales of his new single. He recently tweeted asking his fans all over the world to repeatedly ask their local radio stations to play "Sing" as much as possible. Not surprisingly, many of his fans wrote in saying that they were happy to oblige.
