The 2013 Grammy Nominations Concert took place on Dec. 6 at the Nokia Theatre L.A. Live in Los Angeles, and was televised in the U.S. on CBS. Several of the artists who performed or were presenters at the event were also announced as nominees for the 56th Annual Grammy Awards, which will be held on January 26, 2014, at the Staples Center in Los Angeles. Here is what this Grammy Nominations Concert entertainer said backstage in the press room.

ED SHEERAN

Nominated for:
Album of the Year: Taylor Swift, “Red” (featured artist)
Best New Artist

How do you feel about your Grammy nominations? Do you feel worthy?

I’m not sure. I’m very surprised to be nominated. I’m happy. I don’t know if “worthy” is the right word. I think the moment that you feel worthy for a Grammy, you’re not.

Can you talk about your album that’s coming out in 2014?

There really isn’t much to say at the moment. I finished it. It’s going to be mixed, and we’re going to come out with singles, and then the album is going to come out. There isn’t much solidified at the moment, as far as release dates or anything, but it’s done.

What’s the title of the album?

I’ve had the title for the next seven [albums] for a while, so yeah.

Besides your Grammy nominations, what’s been the highlight of 2013 for you?

Doing the end-credit song for “The Hobbit: [The Desolation of Smaug].” I’m just a massive geek, and being involved with that was fun. I got to hang out with Peter Jackson and go to the premiere and stuff. It was cool.

Did Peter Jackson contact you personally to do the song?

He did. I got an email from Peter Jackson when I was in Ibiza at 4 o’clock in the morning. I was at a wedding, and I got this email saying he wanted me to do the song. I was like, “Ah! All right!”

Which Grammy nomination means more to you?

I’d say Best New Artist is definitely a good one. I think it would mean more to me, because the album of the year is Taylor [Swift’s] album, and it’s not technically my project, but yeah, it was nice to be involved in that. I’d say Best New Artist is a good landmark to have for a British dude coming over here the first year.
