Ed Helms to play Rusty Griswold in 'Vacation' film (UPDATE)

With the “Vacation” film coming to theaters in 2013, there is more information coming through as to what is happening with the film. Who will play Rusty Griswold, offspring of the former bonehead Griswold played by Chevy Chase? It seems that Ed Helms will pick up the role.

The Hangover” star has been chosen to play the fifth Rusty Griswold role. Will he fit in? It doesn’t seem possible that he would be a likely candidate for the role, however, some of the other Rusty characters chosen in the past “Vacation” franchise films haven’t quite fit in either.

John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein, script writers of “Horrible Bosses” have penned a script for the new “Vacation” film. The story of Rusty going on another family summer vacation to the Wally World theme park before it closes down for good is believable. The fact that Ed Helms is playing the role of Clark Griswold’s son may not be quite as believable.

The trip Rusty takes with his own family falls 30 years to the day when he took the original trip with his father, mother and sister.

“Vacation” is set to appear in theaters on schedule, in 2013. The film will be directed by the writers, John Francis Daley and Jonathan M. Goldstein. There is supposed to be a role set aside for the original Clark Griswold, played by Chevy Chase, as grandpa to Rusty’s child.

UPDATE: It seems Beverly D'Angelo will be reprising her role as well. Christina Applegate will be playing Rusty's (Ed Helms) wife. The film is reported to have more of a "catch up" feel to it rather than a sequel. An exact release date is yet to be specified.
