If you’re going out for Valentine’s Day, try one of the many Boston-area restaurants that serve locally made alcoholic beverages or pair their drinks with sustainable foods.  See my list here for details.  If you’re more of a beer-drinker, check out these New England breweries.

For something a little less traditional, visit one of New England's fabulous wineries for a tasting.  Bring home a bottle of your favorite wine to share over dinner, and maybe an extra for the next time you want to have a romantic evening in.

Don’t want to travel on Valentine’s Day at all?  Plan ahead and pick up a bottle of organic wine by Frog’s Leap, Benziger, Frey, or another California vineyard.  Or if you prefer, go for local beer like Smuttynose, Long Trail, Magic Hat, or Red Hook.
