IF YOU WERE LOOKING for more evidence that the cocktail revolution is in full swing (classic cocktails, muddling, sweet-and-savories, rare ingredients, micro-distilleries), look no further than Brooklyn eco-club Littlefield, opening this weekend.
Located in the still-emerging Gowanus neighborhood (tucked between Park Slope and Carroll Gardens, and home to all sorts of arty types), Littlefield is a new performance and art space merging "the Gowanus's industrial past with an organic, eco-friendly future," according to press info. What that translates into is a green-landscaped courtyard, recycled construction materials and wind-powered electricity. Pair that with state-of-the-art sound and a rotating roster of local bands and artists, and you've got a winning hang.
But the creativity doesn't stop there. Straying far from the PBRs and well drinks of most nabe joints, this hipster hideout offers creative cocktails from a former WD-50 mixologist with aperitifs, digestifs and obscure liqueurs featuring prominently. Ask for a Blood and Sand (a 1920s-era cocktail) and it will include authentic Cherry Heering in the blend.
As an added bonus, during the opening weekend, the bar is "Happy Hour-ing" with reduced prices from 2p to 8p. Come early and you can probably chat up the bartender into sneak peeking upcoming concoctions.
Littlefield owners Julie Kim and Scott Koshnoodi say they're hoping the space will "serve as a beacon" for revitalization of the Gowanus neighborhood. If their cocktail menu is any indication, that beacon is shining brightly.
