The Women's Theatre Project presents the Southeastern premiere of Danai Gurira's Eclipsed, February 17 through March 13, 2011.
Eclipsed tells the story of the captive wives of a Liberian rebel officer who form a hardscrabble sisterhood, their lives set on a nightmarish detour by civil war. With the arrival of a new girl who can read - and the return of an old one who can kill - their possibilities are quickly transformed. Drawing on reserves of wit and compassion, these defiant survivors ask: when the fog of battle lifts, could a different destiny emerge?
Danai, a Zimbabwean-American actress and playwright was inspired to write Eclipsed after interviewing Liberian women. She was moved by their incredible stories and their ability to adapt and based her fictional characters on these literal women.
Featured in the production are Renata Eastlick, Lela Elam, Elvire Emanuelle, Carey Hart and Karen Stephensons. Directed by Genie Croft, set design by David Funkhouser and sound design by David Hart.
