Eccelectic Tea and Art Salon Makes a Summer Splash in West L.A.

When husband and wife duo Marcela C. Mumet and Michel Robba took over the Zipper space, at 8316 West Third Street last December, little did locals know that this would not be just another posh café, shop, or art gallery, but all that and more by the day. Marcela, an artist and writer, and Michel, a floral artist, migrated from Miami to Los Angeles last Summer and began plans for their very one-of-a-kind space. In just four short months they managed to put their own influences and inspiration into a wonderfully artistic space that seems minimalist at first but boasts endless little treasures. Nearly a year later, Marcelita L’Art et Le The has become a haven for artists, local food lovers, and most recently, a tea salon!

The openness of Marcelita L’Art et Le The is balanced with large hanging photographs and paintings from local artists, an abundance of both silk and real flowers- arranged by co-owner Michel Robba of course- and little displays here and there. Earthy and edgy cocktail rings and chic metal necklaces by Avant Garde are eye catching in the window while a rack of Zeeboz 100% recycled fabric military jackets hangs on one side. There’s even a vintage bicycle covered in moss and flowers, made by Michel that’s hard to look away from.

While getting the OK from the L.A. Health Department is no small feat, as of last month Marcelita L’Art et Le The is now serving sweet and savory goodies with their first run of teas-more soon to come. They’re pairing local Farmer’s Market Monsieur Marcel pastries and neighbor Nonna’s Empenadas with teas like Moroccan Mint, Royal Chrysanthemum Blossom, and Holiday Berry Green. Served in gorgeous antiques and eclectic mismatched china, you could spend an entire day sipping tea or coffee in the breezy shop, sunny patio, or just relax and join the viewing party (most recently The World Cup) on the big screen.

Marcelita L’Art et Le The is the perfect West Los Angeles stop for brunch, a relaxing weekend afternoon, or just a quick tea and some window shopping. With jewelry and art available for purchase anywhere from $20 to $10,000, and teas and treats starting at $1.50, there is something for every fashion, flower, art, and tea lover at this unique 3rd Street shop. Sure to be a new Los Angeles landmark, you won’t want to miss out! Visit MarcelitaLArtetlethe.com or pop in any time between 10am and 7pm, Monday through Saturday at 8314-8316 West Third Street, between South Sweetzer and South Orlando Avenues.
