Ebon Dragon preview for Masters Edition 4 (ME4)

It's time for our Magic: The Gathering Masters Edition 4 exclusive preview card - Ebon Dragon!

You may remember Ebon Dragon from Portal or From The Vault: Dragons, and now this often overlooked black rare returns in an environment where it might actually have some impact and get some respect - ME4 drafts.

Ebon Dragon

5BB

Creature - Dragon Rare

Flying

When Ebon Dragon comes into play, you may have target opponent discard a card.

5/4

Compared to his dragon brethren, Ebon Dragon is a considerably meek offering, as seven mana for a 5/4 flying is just plain overpriced.  The discard effect Ebon Dragon offers is fairly negligible considering your opponent will likely have either emptied his hand or beaten you into the dust long before you'll be fielding this expensive black brute.

However, let's not write off Ebon Dragon yet - If previous Masters Edition sets have been any indicator, overpriced evasive creatures have a lot of value.  In formats where cards like Baron Sengir are bombs, we're pretty sure that Ebon Dragon will be a playable creature.

Granted, all the Masters Edition 4 cards spoiled so far have been insane, first pick Vintage winners, but there are sure to be some old-school, pre-power creep, inefficient creatures wandering around in the common and uncommon slots, and Ebon Dragon just might have what it takes to fly over for some wins.

Get your chance to play with Ebon Dragon on Magic: The Gathering Online when Masters Edition 4 launches on January 10, 2011.
