East Bakersfield High School, with the direction of Jenna Oldin, will be performing the highly energetic and fun-filled musical "Legally Blonde" on March 1, 2, 8 and 9 at 7 p.m. Aside from a huge cast of students, there will be two local shelter dogs playing roles as well.
"Legally Blonde" the Musical, is based on the novel by Amanda Brown and the movie of the same name which came out in 2001 and starred Reese Witherspoon as the starring role of Elle Woods. The basic story is about Elle Woods, who decides to attend Harvard to win her ex-boyfriend back only to discover her own ability practicing the law can make a difference, first in the life of her confidante and friend Paulette, retrieving her beloved pooch Rufus; and finally in successfully defending Brooke Wyndham in a murder trial. Proving that looks can be deceiving, Elle maintains her Cosmo fashion savvy while graduating Magna Cum Laude and is Valedictorian for her class from the Ivy League!
The East Bakersfield High School cast, which boasts dozens of talented members includes these students in the lead roles:
- Alexandria Burdick as Elle Woods
- Vicente Arias as Emmett Forest
- Paul Robinson as Warner Huntington the third
- April Toelle as Vivienne Kensington
- Dani Evans as Enid Hoops
- Kyle Gaines as Professor Calahan
Elle's dog Bruiser will be played by Bruiser, a chihuahua from the Kern County Animal Shelter; and Paulette's dog Rufus will be played by Paisley, a pit-mix from the Kern County Animal Shelter. A portion of the proceeds from the ticket sales will be donated to the Friends of the Kern County Animal Shelters. The tickets cost $6 in advance, or $8 at the door.
