Ebay website has problems with search being down - how to fix

On Saturday, the ebay website search option was down for most of the day. Ebay is aware of the problem, and they are trying to repair it as soon as possible.

According to the ebay site: Due to errors in some of our backend systems, members may be seeing different errors in Search. This could be that "We were unable to run the search results you entered. Please try again in a few minutes" or a blank page, or simply the browser being unable to display the page.

This is also affecting the ability to access eBay Stores through search directly, and sometimes from the store URL.

With Thanksgiving weekend approaching, many people are trying to use the ebay site search option to plan Christmas shopping, and checking prices of items on ebay is helpful to determine what to buy as gifts.

The ebay website has listed these ways to work around the ebay search option:

Workarounds - Buy It Now Search and Advanced Search

If you use the Advanced Search option at the top of the page, and type in your search query and click the title and description box and then run the search, the results for the title and description search will be returned.

Alternatively, if you receive a 0 results page for title search and click the Buy It Now tab (or choose the title and description box and re-run the search), you'll see the (Buy It Now or title and description) results for your search query.

Unfortunately "the fix" does not always work, and for the most part people are not going to go through the work to do it. Store sellers on ebay have lost the majority of their listings. Ebay reports this as of 11 am PST, however it has been since about 7am EST. They (EBAY) have pushed the time up on their announcement board. Callers have been told there will be no refunds to listers etc. EBAY at the least ought to be giving better information to its sellers and buyers.

As a seller - Top rated and powerseller. Today should be a big day however this is not the case. The fix does not work and I have only sold one item today. I pay listing and sells fee for a service which has not been provided for over 12 hours. As an IT professional I know what redunt systems and back up plans are, Ebay must not. Ebay should inform the sellers of the projected downtime. Communication is very poor! This should be a very big story.
