When you’re searching for niche items to sell, consider accessories for popular gadgets and electronic devices. When people receive a new gadget, they’re likely to want to buy the accessories.
One of the most popular gadgets in 2010 was the Dyson Air Multiplier. A fan may not seem terribly trendy or unique, but this one is the exception. It doesn’t have a grille and there aren’t any blades. The Air Multiplier is round, and uses its unique technology to suck air in and multiply it up to 18 times, which causes a consistent air stream.
Kindles were also incredibly popular last year. Amazon came out with the Kindle 2 and added some great features compared to the previous model. The screen was improved to make it easier to read outside, and you can now buy books instantly with the wireless feature. It can also store up to 1500 books. The Kindle is currently the number one wireless reader, and it is also Amazon’s number one selling electronic product.
Android smart phones also sold very well last year. There are tons of apps that are available for the androids (many of them free), and more are continually being released. People were thrilled to have an alternative to the iPhone, and the sales reflected that.
2010 was also the year that 3-D televisions arrived in stores. Some TV channels (such as Discovery and ESPN) even offer 3-D programming. More are expected to offer 3-D technology within the next year. The 3-D TVs are amazing, and some even offer the option to watch in 3-D or 2-D. However, they are still expensive – one Mitsubishi TV retails for $4,999, although prices are supposed to drop.
Last but certainly not least, the Apple iPad. Over 8 million iPads have sold worldwide. The iPad runs on the same operating system the iPhones and iPod Touches use, but of course has the benefit of a much larger screen. It also makes use of Wi-Fi and has an advanced multi-touch display.
