It is still 3 weeks away from Halloween, but eBay sellers are already thinking about and preparing for holiday sales. The biggest question on their minds is, "How do I figure out what to sell and what is going to be hot this year?" Of course, no one has a crystal ball, but there are ways to find this information if you look for it. Stay plugged in to eBay resources, pay attention to what is going on around you, and listen to what other sellers are willing to share. Here are a few resources to help you:
eBay Holiday Sales Tips 2010 Workshop. This was a workshop put on by eBay and Lisa Suttora, an ecommerce specialist and CEO of WhatDoISell.com, to help sellers get organized for the holidays. You can download the 16-page transcript in its entirety for a huge amount of valuable information.
Auction Bytes Blog. Ina Steiner has been writing one of tne of the best eCommerce blogs on the internet since 1999 Subscribe to get updates on everything eBay.
Skip McGrath's Online Seller's Resource. Skip's newsletter is the oldest and largest free newsletter for professional eBay sellers. Skip has been selling on eBay since its early beginnings and continues to sell today. The newsletter comes out twice monthly.
eBay Category Specific Discussion Groups. There are many. Be careful here, many posters on these boards have been there for years and you will see a lot of drama and bickering - and this can be a huge time waster. It is best to read, learn what you can, and not get caught up in the nonsense.
YouTube. Do searches such as "Top Toys 2010, Hot Toys 2010, Holiday Selling 2010." You will find videos from morning news programs, toy reviews, toy award shows, local news reports, toy testers, and more. The key is to stay plugged into current information. Check YouTube frequently for new videos.
Jenni Hunt's Toy Guide. This annual guide comes out in late October. Jenni does all the research for you and only sells a limited number of these guides so the eBay market does not get oversaturated. Get it early.
Facebook Groups. Join different groups and see what you can glean from the discussions. Some sellers will share info on the hot toys, some won't. The more groups you join and expose yourself to, the more information you will find. Look for large groups with lots of members and regular activity.
