Eating to help the hungry in Citrus County

On March 15, from 4-8p.m., the Community Food Bank of Citrus County (CFBCC) will be hosting the first Food Truck Rally at Rock Crusher Canyon Pavilion. The group Food Trucks for Families will be represented by these mouth-watering options:

Rock Crusher Canyon, Crystal River, FL
28.900150299072 ; -82.593086242676

This fund-raising event will also feature displays by Touch of Class Corvette Club, Citrus County Jeepers, Alliance Coach and Crystal Automotive. Partnering with local business sponsors allows Food Trucks for Families to donate a portion of all food and beverage sales, in this instance to the local food bank.

Joe Cappuccilli is the president of Rock Crusher Canyon and Pavilion and vice-president of the CFBCC. His idea to promote the food bank with the rally was readily supported by the CFBCC board, headed by their president Duane Dueker. Cappuccilli confirms that the non-profit organization has been operational for two months and now has 22 local food agencies participating; including food pantries, soup kitchens and shelters throughout Citrus County.

The CFBCC has an affiliation with Feeding America, which means it will be the beneficiary of food and grocery product from local food stores. This will keep that excess food product in the county to redistribute to the various local agencies. The rally is hoped to raise much needed funding and community awareness of the CFBCC efforts.

Cappuccilli says, “Volunteers will play a huge part in our success and are sorely needed. In addition we have just now secured a truck, which will enable us to make the rounds to the local food stores.” He points out the very promising start for the CFBCC with statistics:

  • 22 agencies now participating
  • 18 agencies submitted orders and received product in February
  • 36,000+ pounds total amount of product distributed year-to-date

Cappuccilli believes the board and executive director Tom Chancey have been doing a magnificent job. He confirms, “There is no doubt in my mind the CFBCC will be a success because once this community understands its role they will support us.”

The rally will have RVs and motor homes to tour and vehicles to test drive. Beer, wine and soda will be available to wash down the food trucks’ culinary delights and the band Cool Corporate Cats will be performing live throughout the event. Enjoy an afternoon of free entertainment and make a purchase from a smorgasbord of gourmet food, to benefit the hungry families of Citrus County. And take an excellent and ongoing opportunity to contribute to the community.
