Bill "El Wingador" Simmons, the eating champ charged formally this week with both possession and manufacturing of a controlled dangerous substance following his cocaine arrest last June, is "not a bad person." At least, that's what Simmons told a judge last summer. Rather, El Wingador shared, he is just "a big dummy."
"I'm asking not to be judged by just this one thing," Bill Simmons reportedly pleaded of the judge who arraigned his case last year. Police investigated Simmons for incidents they say took place on three or four separate dates in the first two weeks of June 2012. NJ state police arrested Bill Simmons on June 15.

The South Jersey Times reported Thursday that the eating champ charged with multiple drug crimes is a Woodbury Heights resident; Simmons last won the Wing Bowl in 2005. Photos above are from the 2004 competition, where up to 20,000 fans cheered Simmons to his fourth victory.
The charges against Bill Simmons came just as competitive-eating enthusiasts geared up for the 2013 Wing Bowl, which was held Friday. The Wing Bowl is traditionally held just ahead of each year's Super Bowl XLVII.
