Eat Your Way to a Healthier You

Often times when one hears about healthy living and changing one's diet, it always focuses on all the things one can't have. This article is about all the delicious wonderful foods one can have and should be having. Changing to a healthy lifestyle isn't about depriving oneself or being miserable about all the things one has to give up. Living a healthy lifestyle is about loving yourself, giving your body the nutrients it needs to not only just survive but also thrive. At first, its hard because you will have to change your perspective on food and yourself. But once you realize all the great things you can have and how much better you feel when you fuel your body with the right foods you'll wonder why you didn't make the choice to live this healthy lifestyle sooner. Here is a list of delicious healthy foods you can eat.

Nuts: Almonds, cashews, pistachios, peanuts all sorts are good for you but no more than a 1/4 cup a day. Peanut butter all natural or sugar free, Jiffy is ok too.

Beans and Legumes: pinto beans, chickpeas, navy beans, black beans, white beans, kidney beans, lima beans etc.

Greens: Spinach, Kale, romaine lettuce, arugula, watercress, endive, mustard greens, broccoli, bok choy, etc.

Dairy: Fat free or low fat milk, yogurt, cheese and cottage cheese, unless you are lactose intolerant. To limit bloating keep the dairy to a minimum.

Oats and Whole grain breads: instant unsweetened, steel cut oats unflavored are good. Cereal All Bran or Fiber One are good ones to eat as well, brown rice, most rice grains are good, Quinoa, spelt, tabouleh, whole wheat pretzels, whole wheat pastas, whole grain bread.

Meats/Proteins: Eggs, Turkey, lean meats like lean cut of steak, chicken, fish mostly whitefish is good and easy to cook. Salmon is great too if you like that as well. Lean beef would be flank steak, lean ground beef, London broil, roast beef, tenderloin, lean pork tenderloin, Whey protein powders but be careful of additive ingredients like sugar.

Oils: Extra Virgin Olive oils, peanut oil, sesame oils, sunflower seed oil, canola oil, country crock churned butter are good to cook with.

Berries/Fruit: Raspberries, blackberries, blueberries, strawberries, apples, all fruit. Watermelon, cantaloupe, tomatoes, peaches, corn on the cob, grapefruits, oranges, bananas.

Avocado gets a category of its own since it is so versatile, it can be used as a vegetable in salad or a fruit, it can be used to substitute any kind of creamy sauce or ingredient for just about anything you make.

Goodies: alcohol can be consumed but limited to 1 or 2 drinks a week and try to make them less than 200 calorie drinks, chocolate can be eaten each day or a few times a week as long as it is only a few ounces. Dark chocolate is better for you but anything made from pure cacao bean is good for you. Of course you can indulge every once in a while in your favorite treat.

There are only 2 things one should limit or eliminate completely in their journey for a healthy lifestyle is fried foods and processed foods.
