Some people strive for greatness and immortality. Some become great leaders and warriors, such as Genghis Khan and General Patton. Others become great humanitarians and peacemakers, such as Gandhi and Martin Luther King. Still others become great thinkers like Plato, great actors like Daniel Day Lewis, great writers like William Shakespeare, great innovators like Thomas Edison, great athletes like Michael Jordan, and so on. For still others, greatness and immortality come through eating mass quantities of food and then having their picture put onto a wall!
At the University of Central Florida’s Student Union is a restaurant known as Wackadoo’s. It was established in 1995 and is both operated and owned completely by alumni and students of the university. It’s a popular hangout for students who like to hang out with friends and eat good food, whether it’s right after a class or before a football game. The restaurant is infamous for many things, from its platypus-like mascot who wears a beanie hat to the most famous item on their menu, the Fat Ass Burger (yes, that’s the actual name).
But one of the things Wackadoo’s is most famous for is the Challenge. To succeed, one must eat nine slices of cheese, nine slices of bacon, two pounds of beef, one ounce of fries, and one pound of BBQ smothered pulled pork! If the one who rises to the challenges succeeds in eating the well over three pounds of food, he or she will get their picture taken and placed upon the Wall of Fame, and all of their food is free. If not, not only do they have to pay $15.99, but also, their picture will be placed on the Wall of Shame.
Whether you’re a student already at UCF, a professor, taking a college road trip, an alumni member coming to see one of the big upcoming football games, or a tourist visiting Florida mainly to see the theme parks, it might be a great idea to stop by Wackadoo’s. This is not a chain restaurant like McDonald’s or Subway. This is a unique eating experience that isn’t available anywhere else in Florida, much less on the face of the Earth. And if you think you have what it takes to gain immortality on the Wall of Fame, then go for it!
