The New Food Lover's Companion by Sharon Tyler Herbst defines cobbler as, "A baked, deep-dish fruit dessert topped with a thick biscuit crust sprinkled with sugar." April 13th marks a day set aside for peach cobbler - one of the yummiest concocctions anywhere!!
Served warm with fresh whipped cream or ice cream - it is pure delicious decadence. But, peaches are extremely rich in vitamin A and potassium, apart from abounding in a number of other nutrients. Peaches are also diuretic, depurative and detoxifying - so, they are wonderful to eat on a weight - loss program.
The body assimilates peaches very easily and they are indicated to help lung debility, liver infections, cancer ulcers, arterial hypertension and anemia.
So, you can make your own or enjoy some of the best cobbler ever at Barbara Jean's in Palm Valley. They offer a different cobbler each day - but, peach is often on the menu - it is fun to share this treat topped with billowy homeade whipped cream.....but, you will wish you had your own once you've had your first bite!!
Another good peach cobbler is at Sonny's Barbecue. They serve their's with ice cream - and it is crunchy and soft, sweet and delicious.
How about Peach Cobbler and ice cream already mixed together? In 2007, Ben and Jerry's put out on the market a new flavor, "Willie Nelson’s Country Peach Cobbler" - peach ice cream with cinnamon sugar shortbread pieces. This yummy flavor is still available at our local beaches Publix.

My grandmother's midwestern cobblers were slightly different than Southern cobbler and i have never found a recipe that duplicated them. They were thick and had great amounts of fruit whereas the southern variety seems to have more bread. Grandma's boysenberry cobbler was a few inches high and almost all fruit, the crust was very much like a biscuit or shortbread.
