Foodie? Discover a cornucopia of yummy, fresh, handmade goodies at the Eat Real Festival on Saturday, July 16th from 10:30AM - 9PM and Sunday, July 17th from 10:30AM - 5PM. Admission is free. Every dish and drink is under $5, but remember to bring some bills. All transactions are cash only. Peruse the delicious list of vendors here.
Eating isn't the only thing on the agenda. The Devil's Box, a punk rock, revisionist-western take on playing fiddle tunes from around the world, kicks off the festival on the main stage at 10:30AM on Saturday. "The Great Butter Shakedown," where dairy farmers from Organic Valley teach you the best way to make butter by grooving at a giant dance party, follows at 11:30AM. Latin folk band, Son del Centro, mix it up when they hit the main stage at 12:30PM. Or, roll up for the egg relay at 1:45PM.
In the Beat Garden, you can hear a medley of live music from Matt Lande, Kirrily Keayes, Suddyn, Alexi Blue, The Young Royals, The Nikhil Korula Band, Mike Sullivan, Annmarie Solo, Ariana Hall, and John Clinebell. And, that's just on Saturday! Click here to see the music schedule.
Food demos - Fab Focacci, Be Your Own Italian Nona with KCRW's Good Food host Evan Kleinman, Komucha Summer Kamp, Cooking with Cactus, Millions of Peaches, Chicken Breakdown, Handcrafter Pasta, Garbage Can Smoker, Coffee Roasting, Pie D'oh, Bike Soup, Hot Sauce How-to, and Makin Bacon are all on Saturday's agenda, too. Check out the food demo schedule here. If people already rave about your food, put your skills to the test and enter one of these contests.
Hear what a panel has to say about Food Writing 2.0 at 4PM at Room and Board. Or, listen to Allison Geddie sing on the main stage at 4:15PM. Cutting up the afternoon is a flying knives steer butchery contest at 6PM. Musical group Vinyl Soul wraps it up at 7PM.
On Sunday, July 17th, Do the Jerk (Sauce), hit the Ice Cream Lab, learn how to make 30-Min Mozzarella, discover the secret to Jam Gems, watch Noodle Pulling, create Kickin' Kimichi, take Sourdough 101, get the breakdown on Pig Butchery, see how Cured Meats are made, or get So Sconed. Click here for exact times.
All day Sunday is the Cookbook Swap located near the Backyard Farm Animals. The basic rules: bring a cookbook, take a cookbook - or food related book. You can only take how many you've brought, so prune your shelves!
Suicide Cowboy gallops on to the main stage at 11:30AM, and Eric Kuffs sings at 3:45PM. Over in the Beat Garden you can listen to Krimzen, Faydean, OddUs, Clayton Joseph Scott, Raquel Ramos, Shannon Moore, and The B.O.L.T.
Eat, drink, and keep it real!
