Last Saturday marked the opening weekend of Green City Market. On the brisk Spring day, shoppers were clamoring for fresh vegetables, vibrant tulips and a little inspiration for Saturday night dinner. The Chicago favorite, showcases local farmers and artisans.

The outdoor space in Lincoln Park is open on Wednesdays and Saturdays. With vendors selling produce, breads, meats and much more, the local, sustainable market is a great place for families to expand their shopping beyond the grocery store. Enter the market without a plan and leave with bags full of fresh ingredients for your family's dinner.

While all the vendors at the market are outstanding, a few vendors offer delectable bites. Here are a few of my family's favorites.

Nomad Food Company

At 7 in the morning or 1 in the afternoon, a freshly made pizza is yummy. New to the market this year, Nomad Pizza Company offers wood-fire oven pizza. Our personal favorite was the lamb sausage pizza with goat cheese. Grab a pizza and enjoy it on the lawn or take it today. The aroma will entice you to buy time and time again.

Three Sisters Garden

A former restaurant chef, these farmers bring unique ingredients to the table. On the opening weekend, the fresh pecans were must buy. Other items, like the micro-greens, are always superb. Don't be afraid to ask questions. We learned a lot about fresh oats.

Nordic Creamery

Wear the button proudly, I'm a butter lover. The fresh goat butter is earthy and delicious just spread on warm crusty bread. Other offerings are a variety of cheeses, including freshly made cheese curds.

There are a total of 64 vendors at Green City Market. Variety and selection changes often. Getting to the market early is recommended because occasionally items sell out.
