Boutique hotels seem to be popping up just about everywhere these days and Portland is certainly not immune to this trend. Boutique hotels often offer a great, personalized experience over some of the bigger, multinational hotels that have dominated many city skylines over the years.
Hotel Modera, located in the center of Portland, is a true gem. Decked out with Italian Carrara marble and black walnut flooring Hotel Modera is a modish oasis where the hustle and bustle of downtown is just steps from its doors.
EAT
Although Hotel Modera is located near various restaurants that have put Portland on the culinary map there’s no need to step outside to get a first hand taste of what makes many food critics list Portland’s dining scene at the top.
Located just off the hotel’s lobby is local restaurateur and chef, David Machado’s latest creation, Nel Centro, which draws its culinary inspiration from the French and Italian Riviera. That said; make sure you order one of Nel Centro’s handmade pasta like the pillowy Ravioli Niçoise with butter and Parmesan or the succulent Pappardelle with Wild Boar Ragu.
Grab a seat that looks on to the outdoor patio or nestle up to the bar and catch some of the live jazz that graces Nel Centro on select evenings. Nel Cento serves breakfast, lunch and dinner Monday through Saturday and brunch and dinner on Sunday.
DRINK
After dinner you can grab a drink at Nel Cento and enjoy your libation with fellow travelers or you can walk that drink right outside to Hotel’s Modera’s inner courtroom with a pathway that beckons you with illuminating lanterns. If there is a chill in the air there’s no change of plans needed as you can bask in the glow of the courtyard’s glass-filled glowing fire pits.
And once you’ve imbibed the tasty elixir you too will soon be glowing. When you look out onto the courtyard you may think it’s the affects of the Maurin Manhattan or the Elder Margarita, but believe me, you’re not seeing things. That’s truly a fully sustainable 63-by-15 foot “Living Wall of foliage and other organisms…a Portland first.
SLEEP
When the ice cubes start to melt and the fire pits are extinguished that can only mean one thing: it’s time to retire upstairs to one of the many suites that offers you picturesque views of Downtown Portland before you say goodnight.
If you’re looking to impress, splurge on the Premier Suite where the King bedroom overlooks an impressive view of the city. And when you’re not stretching out on the bed, you’ll have plenty of room to roam in the adjoining living room with dining room table just off to the side.
But, if after all of the day’s excitement, you are still not ready to call it a night you can take advantage of the complimentary passes to a nearby 24 Hour Fitness to burn off any excess energy. Once you’re back in your room, find your way to the Tarocco bath products from Italy and luxuriate until the sun comes up.
