"Eat | Drink | Art," the unique event that pairs gourmet dining with the opportunity to view and meet one of Miami's most exciting up-and-coming artists will take place this week at City Hall the Restaurant.
The Friday Nov. 8 event will feature a three-course dinner with wine pairings artfully created by Luis Lopez, the restaurant's executive chef. Lopez is creating the meal and its presentation around featured artist Marcelo Holzinger, to showcase both his colorful abstract work and his Argentinean heritage.
"I am very grateful for the honor of being the third artist selected in this event series," said Holzinger. "Viewing a painting is generally a visual experience, as our eyes absorb the beauty of the art. However, this unique concept adds the senses of taste and smell in a fusion that deepens the experience and takes it to a whole new level," he added.
The dinner will be hosted by Steve Haas, the restaurant's owner, and artist Noel Suarez, a longtime friend of Haas. It was Suarez who inspired the series, Haas said.
"Noel had just returned from a two-month cruise on the Baltic, where he was the resident artist. We talked about his experience and decided to recreate a similar experience here, where the artist could meet directly with people who appreciate art, introduce them to the work, and also talk about their personal background," Haas said.
"We also thought this could be a way to directly support the artists, because they could sell their work directly to the people who appreciate it, and make it more affordable since they didn't have to pay a high commission to a gallery," he added.
Both the artist and the chef will be on hand to mingle with the diners and discuss the process by which both the food and the art work was created.
Haas is no stranger to creating exciting new dining events; he is the creator of "Miami Spice," the city's two-month long signature program that offers diners discounted meals at the area's best restaurants.
Each diner will receive a signed commemorative gift from Holzinger, along with VIP admission to his upcoming black-tie opening reception in Downtown / Brickell during Art Basel Week.
The price is $99 per person, which includes tax and tip.
