This Sunday, August 22nd, is National Eat a Peach Day. If you are looking to celebrate Sunday by eating a peach you can certainly do so for dessert.
We have been talking this month about the great local peaches you can find at Philadelphia area farmer's markets, pick your own farms, and grocery stores/local markets but today we will talk about the simplest way to enjoy fresh local produce: just the way it is.
Everyone likes a peach pie, cobbler, or tart but sometimes on a hot summer's day consider just enjoy a fresh piece of fruit for dessert. Today we see a trend towards simpler foods that stress the traditional cuisine of the area. Philadelphia has a few restaurants with this focus (R2L comes to mind) but you can bring this mindset into your home as well.
The best way sometimes to enjoy the best fruit of summer is to eat it just as is. Enjoy it the way people have for hundreds of years. We all love peach sorbet but sometimes we are too busy to even go out and purchase a pint at the market so instead when you are a little busy and looking for dessert just grab a great piece of fresh fruit and enjoy. This option is great because it is inexpensive, has no added sugar, and is portable!
If you are looking for a fun activity this weekend hit up a pick your own farm on Saturday and spend Sunday celebrating National Eat a Peach Day just remember to eat dessert (a great local peach) first!!!
