Who doesn’t love gravy? You smother it on just about everything on your Thanksgiving dinner plate; mashed potatoes, turkey and stuffing. Turkey gravy doesn’t have to be intimidating, just a few simple steps and you have beautiful, lump free gravy.
The trick to delicious gravy is turkey stock. The stock can be made in advance and quickly warmed up before making the gravy. This simple pan gravy uses the drippings from the turkey, as well as the stock and it comes together in minutes.
Easy Turkey Gravy Recipe – makes 2 cups
- Turkey Drippings, reserved
- ¼ cup flour
- 2 cups warm turkey stock
- 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
- Salt and Pepper to taste
Once the turkey is done, remove from the oven and let rest for 30 minutes. After the 30 minutes, remove the turkey and set on a cutting board. Pour all of the drippings from the roasting pan into a measuring cup and let the fat rise to the top.
Place the roasting pan on a stove burner over medium heat. Pour in a ¼ cup of fat from the drippings; discard the rest of the fat leaving just the drippings. Add flour and whisk until smooth; about 2 minutes.
While whisking, slowly add the remaining defatted turkey drippings along with the warmed turkey stock. Bring the mixture to a simmer and whisk occasionally. Next add Worcestershire sauce and taste for seasoning. Add salt and pepper if desired.
Strain gravy through a fine sieve into a gravy boat. Serve immediately.
