Easy seasonal snacks

This is the time of year when gatherings will start to be an every weekend event. Be it social, work or family it’s all about the food so beware.

You may not realize how a nibble here or there can add up but it does, so if you’re watching your weight be mindful and bring something you can eat.

Making a simple yet low calorie snack to bring doesn’t have to be complicated, you can just find a few things to put together and make them look festive. This way you can eat guilt free and surprise your host with something that most people may not have even thought of.

Healthy snack ideas:

  • Apples – they are plentiful right now and cut in thin slices or cubed they look adorable and present very nice, even sprinkled with cinnamon they are wonderful
  • Crackers – low sodium then top with low fat cheese or hummus, or get creative and place thin meats on top of a non fat butter spread
  • Pears – cut in cubes and serve with a sharp cheese they are wonderful, just place a toothpick in each one
  • Celery – with soft low fat cream cheese and a few added cranberries

The holiday season is an amazing time of year, but also a time for diet pitfalls, thanks to all the delicious seasonal foods (and the ubiquity of high-calorie, tempting desserts, etc). But apples and pears (sprinkled with cinnamon or added to a small block of cheese) is a healthy, yummy alternative! Thanks for the tips :)
