My potted lemon tree dangles several juicy yellow fruits that reminded me of a quick, easy, do-it-yourself facial using only three ingredients: lemon juice, uncoated asprin and baking soda. My friend Laurel Bouchier at Blossom Healing Arts in Denver, taught me this facial; and Laurel learned it from watching Dr. Oz. Laurel's blog reports that after she tried this facial, she got carded at the liquor store! She's well past 21 years of age, and notes that she had not been carded for a long time.
To freshen up your face for a not New Year's Eve date or a self-pampering evening in, follow these easy steps:
• Place 8-10 uncoated asprins in a small glass or bowl.
• Add lemon juice--which does not need to be fresh, by the way.
• Allow the lemon juice to disolve the asprins.
• Apply the asprin-lemon juice mixture to your cleansed face. Be careful to avoid the eye area because the lemon juice will definitely sting. Allow the mixture to remain on your face for up to 10 minutes.
• Make a paste with a couple tablespoons of baking soda and a few drops of water.
• Using your fingers or a cotton pad, apply the baking soda paste over the asprin-lemon juice. Upon contact, this paste will create a chemical reaction that sizzles and burns for just a moment.
• Massage the baking soda into the skin.
• Then rinse your face with fresh water.
You'll be surprised at how smooth your face looks and feels. Not for women only!
So when life hands you lemons, make Dr. Oz's lemon-asprin mask, or as Laurel calls it, the "Bring Your Driver's License Facial."
