Did you know that August 1-7, 2010 is Washington State Farmers Market Week? Governor Christine Gregoire proclaimed Washington's Farmers Market Week at the urging of the Washington State Department of Agriculture (WSDA) and the Washington State Farmers Market Association (WSFMA) in recognition of the over 150 farmers markets that allow the public to enjoy fresh locally grown produce, meats, cheeses and specialty food products. Chelan County has several markets throughout the week.
Farmers markets give residents and visitors an opportunity to see another side of the community. Leavenworth Community Farmers Market on Thursday evenings has live music and entertainment, free kids' activities, and local crafts in addition to locally grown fruit and fresh food products.
Below is a list of Chelan County Farmers Markets. Website addresses are listed where available.

Visiting a farmers market when you're traveling gives you great insight into the local community and what's important to it. “The diversity of markets, the variety of foods available, and increasing public interest in visiting farmers markets is also promoting tourism in the state,” said Patrice Barrentine, direct marketing coordinator for the WSDA Small Farm & Direct Marketing Program. “Some visitors get a taste of the local culture off the tourist track by visiting local farmers markets.” (WSFMA press release)
