Do you remember how you use to get so excited on the week before Easter Sunday? You may have gotten a new outfit and new shoes; a new “Easter Bonnet”, a little clip-on bow tie or cute little ruffled socks? These were things that got us excited about the season of Easter.
You were about to be out of school for Spring break and it was time to get your hair done. It was a time to get ready to celebrate Easter (Resurrection Sunday). If you didn’t attend church every Sunday, this wasn’t going to be the day to stay home. Someone in the family had been cooking all day Saturday to present a feast to be served after church.
As you got older, you began to learn what the seasons of Lent and the Resurrection truly meant. The television presentation of “The Bible” on the History channel is a perfect introduction to the greatest time of the year. It’s not just time to make Easter baskets or search for colorful eggs (and there is nothing wrong with doing this as long as we teach our children about the true meaning of the season), but it is a time to recognize who went to the cross and died for our sins so that we could live a glorious life here on earth and later in heaven.
Things have changed and times are continually changing. There is a greater need to get into fellowship one with another on a regular continual basis and not just on one or two days a year. You are invited to continue a family tradition, or create a new family custom of fellowship, worship and experience teaching that will have a positive impact on your life.
