Strains of jazz filled the room compliments of the Miles Davis trio who provided the background music for today's fabulous Easter brunch from their perch on the patio at the chic Esterel at the Sofitel Hotel in Los Angeles.
We went to the restaurant with our friend Tom to celebrate the day while enjoying unlimited mimosas and a four course meal that proved very tasty and quite filling for the Diva who had to ask for a doggie bag.
The mood was as inviting as always on this especially gloriously warm day in LA as we sipped our beverages, listened to the music and talked stories (a Hawaiian expression that works anywhere). When we booked the $45 a person brunch, which I wrote about last week, we expected the portions to be tasting size for that price. But no, we were served full-sized portions of crepes, Santa Barbara Smokehouse salmon, a croquet Madame with ham and cheese topped with a perfectly cooked egg, grass-fed New York strip steak with a scrambled egg, lobster eggs Benedict and crème brulee, Valrhona chocolate bar and a peach tart with pistachio ice cream. Obviously we tried everything on the five-course men and it was really all good. The service was exceptional, as it often is here when we go for dinner (this was our first brunch at the restaurant).
Just in case you want to treat your Mom to a special experience, the hotel is staging a Mother’s Day Brunch which I highly recommend after sampling today’s offering. You really should plan to go over to dinner, too, the chef perpares a mean menu using locally-grown produce and a very creative hand.
