Easter baskets that focus on fun, not sweets (Photos)

The Easter Bunny will be hoping along the bunny trail soon. While tradition states that bunnies bring chocolate, jelly beans and other sugary treats, this year I suggest that the baskets be filled with non-edible treats. This year my family will be skipping the candy in favor of other items that will last longer and not crush our diets.

Here are some suggestions that our family enjoys.

New water bottles:

As the weather gets warmer (or so we hope), the need for a water bottle during sports or just playing outside is very important. A reusable water bottle that reflects your child's style can be a fun gift. For younger children, the Easter Bunny Flip Tops from Cool Gear or the Design a Bottle from Cool Gear will surely bring a smile to the kids' faces.

Family games:

We try to have a weekly family game night in our house. A new game to your family's library can make the fun last for a long time. Whether you like fast paced games like World Series of Yahtzee or educational games like Wordical, there are many options to fit your family's personality.

Sunglasses, goggles and all things summer:

Even though the temperatures outside are far from beach weather, families can dream of sun, sand and fun. Add some new sunglasses, a pair of goggles or even a new hat for the warm weather ahead. Most mass merchants and local retailers have summer merchandise available.

Books:

Parents know how important reading is to a child's success. Why not add a book or two in this year's basket. From Captain Underpants to a Disney favorite, a book can bring hours of fun (and a little learning too).

These suggestions are options that have worked well in our family. What will the Easter bunny bring to your house this year?
