The patriarch of a religious family went to the Detroit police Friday and admitted that he had fatally shot his wife earlier that day. Now the prosecutor has charged Anthony Eugene Stanford, 46, with first degree murder and felony firearm.
The shooting took place in the family home in the 3900 block of Bedford Street on the city’s east side.
Tony Stanford shot his wife Lori Ann Stanford, 36, several times in the family room. She reportedly died at the scene.
The couple’s three boys, ages 9-15, were home, but reportedly in a different part of the house when the shooting happened, so they did not witness it.
Tony Stanford then dropped the three boys off at a neighbor’s house.
He then picked up his pastor, who accompanied him to a local Detroit police station.
Stanford reportedly made a full confession.
Police say the couple had no history of domestic violence,
Stanford is expected to be arraigned in the 36th district court on Monday.
