Alert PA issued an Emergency Alert at 11:10 am Jan. 21 for Adams County residents. The Adams County Department of Emergency Services is requesting that all residents within a ½ mile radius of the Knouse Foods Plant in Orrtanna to stay indoors and “shelter-in-place” until further notice.

The Emergency Alert has been issued as a precautionary measure because of a tractor-trailer fire involving insulation material, which is a potential respiratory irritant. The tractor trailer caught fire early Tuesday morning at the Knouse Foods Plant and was carrying chemical toluene.

Five employees from the plant have been taken to Gettysburg Hospital for respiratory issues and Adams County Emergency Management officials have stated that the truck is still burning. A HAZMAT team has been dispatched. For more information, please visit South Central Alert.
