The San Jose Earthquakes held the Seattle Sounders scoreless to win 1-0 on Saturday, July 13, 2013 at Buck Shaw Stadium in Santa Clara, CA. Earthquakes midfielder Walter Martinez scored the lone goal of the game in the 48th minute.

Both teams had chances but could not convert until Martinez found the back of the net to open the second half against Seattle's backup goalkeeper Andrew Weber.

Martinez was denied by Sounders starting goalkeeper Michael Gspurning in the 14th minute and what could have been a highlight bicycle kick goal. Gspurning was injured but finished the first half before being replaced by Weber, a former Earthquakes player.

Seattle was plagued with injuries with midfielder Brad Evans and defender Djimi Traore leaving the game after being injured during the game. San Jose also also suffered a setback with center back Jason Hernandez leaving the game due to injury just before halftime.

San Jose improved to 6-9-6 in the season. The Earthquakes will host an International friendly against Norwich City on Saturday, July 20, 2013 and back to MLS play against the Portland Timbers on Saturday, July 27, 2013.
