Tuesday, Jan 22, 2013, was a weird day in Quebrada de Escoipe in Argentina. Residents of Ditch, a site located in the midst of hills surrounding Quebrada de Escoipe, are scared. Since Tuesday, a lot of really "strange things" have disrupted their way of life.
First, there was an earthquake that day and another strong one that night, followed by a buzzing sound.
At dawn on Wednesday, there was a loud boom and in the morning a cloud of blue dust covered the area. Some residents complained that it made their eyes burn. The next day the color of the cloud changed to red.
When residents went to the site of the loud boom, they found a huge landslide or subsidence.
After a week of living with the weird phenomena, the earth is still shaking and emanating clouds of red smoke. The affected area is home to about 50 families who make their living from agriculture and breeding animals.
Understandably, residents are concerned, as they do not know whether the smoke is toxic and because the land where they plant their crops and raise their animals is sinking.
According to El Tribuno, a technical team will visit the area in an attempt to determine the cause.(Source)
