Earth Day Performance Options: 2014 Lexus GS 450 Hybrid

At a time when climate change has taken center stage, now is the time for the performance driven consumer to take a serious look at his/her auto options. And in the 2014 Lexus GS 450 Hybrid, compromise is no where to be found in the equation.

MSRP: $60,430
MPG: 31 mpg combined at 29 city / 34 highway
Range per tank: 539 miles
Fill up: $68 for a 17.4 gallon tank of premium gasoline

Let’s just cut straight to the chase here…The Lexus GS 450 Hybrid is one bad mother….SHUT YO MOUTH!
Debuting a direct-inject 3.5 liter Atkinson-cycle V6 engine with the combination of a hybrid-motor system that altogether produces the power of 338 horses, is paired-up with an electronically controlled, eight step, Continuously Variable Tranny. Translation: A hybrid that achieves 0-60 in just 5.6 seconds!

Additionally, the Lexus Drive Mode selector gives you the option to change your world in an instant, via five modes. From the bottom up, the EV mode allows you to travel for a short distance and a low speed on electric power only, while ECO adjusts climate-control and other systems that tax the battery in order to achieve energy savings. But to really get the adrenaline flowing requires driving in Sport, Sport S or Sport S+ modes. Each of the three adjusts throttle response, transmission control, suspension, steering and more. Of them all, the greatest thrill comes when driving in Sport S+, where power and glory take center stage to deliver the kind of testosterone raising performance that will have you smiling like a fat kid over a hunk of frosted cake!

Like a champ, the GS 450h handles the road as if it there is no separation between it, you and the ground on which it travels. And with a 36.8 ft turning circle, baby just glides into your command without ever a fuss or fight.

On the inside, rich, bold, muted bamboo accents makes for a sunny day everyday in the GS 450h. In terms of options, they’re all included by the time you pimp it out, for a total of $70K. So cut and dry, if I were in the market for a new car, for one, it would definitely be a performance based hybrid or a diesel vehicle. And with the killer performance, stunning looks and fuel economy rating of the 2014 GS 450h, no doubt, it would be amongst the top two contenders!
