Educate your children about Earth Day by taking them to one or more events especially geared to kids. The goal is to focus their attention on the environment and increase their awareness of the world around them. In Atlanta parents have multiple choices to accomplish just that.
- Zoo Atlanta is the place to be for Party for the Planet. It is a party for the Earth with fun family activities, crafts and special exhibits. Kids can make their own fossils, go on an Earthworm dig, party with the Wild Thing and check out various green exhibitors. Zoo Atlanta is located at 800 Cherokee Ave., the date is April 24th from 10 to 5 and admission is free. Families are encouraged to bring an old cell phone for recycling and receive a $3.00 discount off general admission for up to 4 people.
- Celebrate Earth Day in a beautiful garden when you bring the kids to the Atlanta Botanical Garden. The kids will learn about conservation programs, view ladybugs being released and participate in all kinds of crafts. On Earth Day admission is buy one get one admission free. The Garden opens at 9:30 AM and closes at 12:30 PM.
- Everybody loves a parade, so head over to Decatur to the community garden site in Harmony Park. The date is
- Sunday, April 18th and the fun begins at 12:30 PM where activities will include: kid’s crafts, music performances, A Live Raptor Show and a special Earth Day T-shirt contest. The best part is –it is free! Harmony Park is located at Oakview and Mead Road Intersection Decatur, GA 30030
- Join Captain Planet and the Chattahoochee Nature Center as they celebrate the 8th Annual Earth Day Kids Fest! The children will enjoy exciting hands-on, engaging activities, performances, and environmental education experience.
- On Saturday and Sunday, April 17th and 18th the Sweetwater Festival 420 Fest takes place. It’s a happening scene with music, food, and education about how each and every one of us can be a part of the solution! Kid Zone features Circus Camp, Moon bounce, Earth Art project, Captain Planet cartoon and more. The place is Candler Park at 1500 McClendon Ave. NE
- Celebrate the Earth in Dunwoody at the Dunwoody Nature Center. On April 24th from noon to four the kids learn about electronics recycling, toner/ink cartridge and battery/cell phone collection and on-site document shredding. The Nature Center is located at 5518 Chamblee Dunwoody Rd.
- It’s another free event as Georgia Tech celebrates “Our World Earth Day.” It is one of the largest Earth Day celebrations in the Southeast. The event features 70 exhibitors, eco-friendly giveaways, recycling opportunities, a clothing swap, an office supply exchange, live music, and organic popcorn. On Friday, April 23rd, get over to Tech. The event is from 10AM to 2.
