Happy Earth Day 2014! This year’s Earth Day theme is “green cities.” Throughout the country and the world, cities everywhere are turning permanently green and green for the day. Show your support for this environmental phenomenon with green beauty for hair and nails.

Earth Day began April 22, 1970 with what many call the “birth of the modern day environmental movement.” The crusade to save the world turned global in 1990, and today most cities worldwide have multiple events to commemorate Earth Day, such as Winter Park, Florida.

To celebrate Earth Day 2014 the Hannibal Square shops are conducting a scavenger hunt and offering complimentary green manicures to anyone who brings their old newspapers to Pure Blends Organic Spa and Apothecary. The green manicures not only consist of nail polish within the hue as pictured in the above photo, but also use organic nail polish. If you are in the Orlando area on Earth Day, click this link for more information.

For those who’d like a green manicure year round, try Zoya Natural Nail Polish & Nail Care Treatments. Zoya Nail Lacquers is one of the first beauty companies to go organic with its removal of toluene, camphor, formaldehyde, formaldehyde resin, and DBP from its nail polish.

Not to be forgotten, a multitude of organic hair care has hit the beauty market. It is always best to give the hair a rest at least once a week. This means no heat or styling products. However, you cannot forget to tend to the scalp when caring for the hair, especially in the cooler climates where heat causes dry scalp and an increase in sebum, the oil that builds on the skin and clogs pores. In essence, the scalp needs an exfoliation similar to that of the skin on the body, but not as harsh.

Balanced Guru offers Organic Detoxifying Scalp Treatment that is 100 percent cruelty free made of USDA certified organic ingredients in a biodegradable, recyclable bottle. Tea tree oil, oregano, rosemary essential oils, algae, sea kelp and brahmi extract dissolve the oils, and cleanse and detox the hair and scalp in less than 48 hours for a refreshed and moisturized head. Use a full dropper’s worth on the entire area or a few drops in localized spots. There is no need to wash out or rinse.

Take stock of what you can do this Earth Day 2014 with the above green beauty sampling for the hair and nails. Walk or take public transportation when possible to support this year’s Earth Day theme of "Green cities.” The walking is great for you health, which in turn keeps you beautiful.
