Earth Day 2013 in Savannah offers lots of fun for the whole family (Photos)

Earth Day will officially be celebrated on Saturday, April 20th this year with lots of fun events planned throughout the city, including Jane Fishman's Urban Garden Plant Swap and sustainable living workshops in Forsyth Park to teach you how to grow edible mushrooms and learn about the natural healing power of everyday spices you have in your kitchen right now.

You can even bring your expired medications to be disposed of properly and donate those old clothing and shoe items to Goodwill.

For those of you who are not familiar with it, Earth Day was founded in 1970 to combat the ever growing industrial nation and the tendency to abuse the land to make a profit. Now we are learning how to make a profit by recycling and reducing and reusing products in some creative as well as practical ways.

This year, over 100 exhibitors, many giving out all sorts of freebies from ink pens and cups to Frisbees and even insulated lunch bags as well as lots of great literature on how to be less hostile to the planet.

From 8 - 11 in the morning the south end of Forsyth Park will offer drop off for recylable items like cooking oil, car batteries, tires, electronics, old paint and more. For a complete list of items they will take, just check out: http://www.earthdaysavannah.org/recyclerama.html

The Festival itself takes place from 9 - 3 with festival workshops and activities. Some of the workshops have a limited number of participants and some are open to all, so make sure you pick up a flyer and save a spot for yourself or your child so you won't be disappointed.

The Farmer's Market will be there with fresh locally grown produce, honey, eggs and organically fed beef products too and the park is dog friendly, so be sure to bring your well mannered canine friends.

There will be a parade of veggies with costumes made on site and story telling for the little ones, so make sure you head downtown to check out the festivities.
