Earn floral design skills to make church flower arrangements (Video)

Sometimes our school is approached by a prospective student who would like to learn flower arrangements for the purpose of making floral decorations at church where she participates in Mass every Sunday. Faithful Catholics are obligated to attend Mass each and every Sunday and skipping Mass without grave reason is considered a mortal sin. Students who learn flower arranging at our school must be faithful Catholics and would like to contribute to the church by making floral decorations as a volunteer.

It is a very good thing to learn something with a definite and clear purpose no matter what they learn. If her goal is to earn a decent flower arranging skill enough to decorate a church with flowers, it will not be a pain to devote herself to learning floral designs and when she has achieved her goal, she must be very happy.

Buying pre-cut and pre-designed flower arrangements at a floral shop and displaying them at a church is one of ways. However designing and arranging flowers yourself can significantly help reduce the cost of church flower decorations in addition to having a good opportunity for expressing your idea and concept in flower arrangements. In this sense it is a good idea to learn floral decorations for earning a right skill with which you can further contribute to church decorations.

As you may know, there are several places in church where floral arrangements can be displayed and each places being decorated with flowers can be finely dressed up. Followings are typical places where you can display your flower arrangements:

In the Sanctuary:

You may find floral decorations on (or by) the altar, ambo and central table:

Altar may be the most visible place which catches eyes of attendees to a mass. By making your own floral arrangements on the altar, you are able to not only express your personal touch but also enhance the beauty of the church. On the central table we often see a large floral arrangement.

In the Lobby:

When entering a church the first thing they find is the lobby or reception area which is usually very spacious. Floral arrangements displayed in this area should be large enough so it will not be buried in the spacious room.

Fellowship Hall:

Fellowship hall is a very large room where church members gather together and various activities are done such as dinners, breakfast, workshops and some other meetings. Many of fellowship hall also has recreational facilities such as basketball court etc. In the entrance and exit doorways, you can place flower arrangements such as swags etc.

If you make floral decorations at a church which you have not been familiar with so far, it is recommended to check with a church about the policy regarding flower decorations.
